The Difference
Perennial flowers will grow year after year for several years until they eventually die. They might look dead during the winter, but that’s only when they are like other plants that go dormant when it is cold. Annuals, while also beautiful, are also short-lived. This is because they will only bloom during the spring and summer months before dying. Perennials are usually blended with annuals in the same garden as both provide a different set of colors. Annual flowers are also a fantastic way to bring more life into a garden after a long winter.
Advantages
Annual flowers are less expensive than the perennials are, so if you’re trying to enhance your landscape and garden, you can still do it on a budget. That said, if you would rather not spend your entire fall looking after your flowers, then the perennials would be a better choice. They don’t need as much care as long you put them in spots where they will really thrive. When perennials bloom, they will be open for a little over a month. They’ll bloom consistently and reliably for the next four years, after which you can cut them and have some new perennials to use.

Once you know which flowers you want, you’ve got to know how to plant them. Hostas and hydrangeas are two types of perennials that you can plant in the fall and they will start blooming not long after. But if you’re interested in planting annuals such as petunias or periwinkles, then you might want to wait until next summer.
